South of the town - east coasts
Heading south-east of Zakynthos town, at just 4 kilometres, visit the cosmopolitan, organised beach of Argassi, where you will find shops, restaurants, bars, and many activities for children, such as mini golf, a fun castle and an animal farm. A little further south, in the area of Vassilikos, you will find a serene, virgin beach, with sand and crystal-clear waters, a bar and some taverns. Very close by are the unique beaches Sekania and Daphne, major breeding habitats of the Caretta Caretta turtle.
Soon, you will find yourselves at the best beach of the island and one of the best in Europe, according to The Times: Gerakas (25 minutes from the town of Zakynthos) is a golden sandy beach, isolated by rocks. This is also part of the National Marine Park, as it is where the Caretta Caretta turtle lays its eggs, imposing particular attention and respect for this rare ecosystem. On the beach, you will find two taverns; however, no water sports are allowed. The 9 km-long beach of Laganas, which is always crowded, is equally popular for the same reasons. There you will find many restaurants, bars and shops. Finally, Porto Roma is a calm, picturesque beach with a bar and some taverns, ideal for families. A few kilometres from Laganas, Keri is an alternative for relaxation on a beautiful beach with fine sand, pebbles and rocks.
