North of the town - east coasts
Just 10 minutes from the town, you will find the clean, the Blue Flag-awarded sandy beach of Tsilivi, ideal for small children, but also for lovers of water sports, as it offers facilities for windsurfing, water skiing, banana boats, pedaloes, jet skiing, paragliding and many activities for children and adults. North of Tsilivi and near Tragaki, Bouka is a quiet beautiful beach with crystal clear waters. A little farther (25 minutes from the town of Zakynthos) there is an excellent beach, Porto Koukla, offering a tranquil environment, some taverns and a few bars.
To the north-east, you will find the shallow waters of the beach of Alikes, ideal for families with children. There are shops, restaurants, bars and a super market. The coast joins the neighbouring Alykanas beach, famous for its seafood taverns. These two beaches are just 20 minutes from the town of Zakynthos. Xigia, featuring sulphur springs, and Makris gialos are among the most spectacular beaches of the island. On the northern tip of the island, just 35 km north-west of Zakynthos town, visit the majestic Blue Caves, in Aspros Vrachos, south of cape Skinari. They were discovered in the late 19th century; the biggest cave is called Kianoun. You can visit them by boat and, if you’re feeling bold, take a swim in their cold, crystal-clear waters!
